Hotel Design Dubai – One & Only The Palm

The One & Only Resort on the Palm is one of my favorite hotels in Dubai for its lobby and guestroom design as well as its lighting. After the half hour long drive down the Palm to reach its furthest point you realize it is such a refreshing and remote getaway in the heart of Dubai.

Its not often that my jaw drops to drool when I walk into a hotel, in fact I find most of the time my jaw drops in fear when I see some tragic, out of date or cheap Hotel interiors. Fortunately in Dubai amongst the plethora of rush jobs you can find some real gems.

Pattern, texture and lovely materials throughout the luxury hotel property.

The resort interiors were designed by WA International who seamlessly brought a feminine and Andalusian touch to the environment. “The aim was to create a resort-style hotel typical of the One & Only genre, with influences from Andalusian culture,” says Helen Skea, associate, WA International. “We were inspired by the Alhambra-style exterior created by DSA Architects and made use of detailing from the same period, but added a modern touch with an asymmetrical setting, instead of the formal style normally associated with that era. We also used more contemporary finishes, like highly polished timbers, embossed metals and acid-etched decorative-glass designs throughout.”

RED Interior Design

Philippe Starck Hotel interior

Faena Hotel Argentina by Philippe Starck

Happy Valentines’s Day to all my blog readers, I love you all! I hope you all have  a romantic and love inspired day. Whether it consists of a romantic dinner for two, a trip to an exotic location, a massage or even just a love note from a friend or client this day is sure to be red, pink, white and gushy!

Here are some great Red color schemes and red interiors to inspire your day. Stop and think… what makes a space romantic? what makes a space luxurious? what makes a space an exciting getaway? what sights, smells, textures,  lighting and moods are necessary for a valentines surprise? It can be hard to introduce the color red to a color scheme without overtaking the interior, but if you add it as bold pops in luxurious materials with a white backdrop you are sure to have a winner! The shade of red you choose will also impact the mood you achieve. orange reds appeal more to men and blue reds appeal more to women- is that why Valentines items tend to be more blue-red focused?

Romantic Red Forest

Red and White bedroom from Elle Decor

This room is so beautiful! I think it is another Philippe Starck creation but I don’t remember! It has plenty of old world charm but all done in a new way. The freshness of the white bedding, headboard and walls make the picture frame collage on the wall and the red blanket really stand out and add character to the cleanliness of the bedroom. This is a very feminine but sweet space that I could see a teenage girl, woman or even grandmother loving to spend her time in and store her pearls.

Nothing like beautiful black and white photography with pops of red!

This red and white color scheme is excellently executed. Not only am I in love with the Red wall paneling and its proportion but the white and red mosaic tiles are the perfect way to ground the space and give it some refined pattern. This space also would not have been as well executed without the natural daylight to brighten up the deepness of the red.

LOVE red

I dont know why I love it so much but the NYC LOVE sculpture is incredible. I have a picture of me standing in it somewhere in my files… I will have to post it as soon as I find it! The Holly Hunt chair to the right of the LOVE is one of my all time fav pieces from the collection the color shape and materials are all so beautiful for both residential and hospitality spaces.

The Faena Hotel in Argentina by Philippe Starck is stunning and looks like it was created just for Valentine’s day. I love at all that beautiful white marble, mirror details and red accents. Very feminine and luxurious.

Playa Del Carmen Mexico

Princess Resort Panorama

I had the pleasure of vacationing in August with my family and the Grand Sunset Princess resort in Playa del Carmen Mexico. The unfortunate location of a deadly November 15th 2010 blast.

This resort was spectacularly beautiful. The sunsets, views, relaxation, food and serenity mixed with hundreds of exciting guests from around the world made for a wonderful packed week and great vacation. I am often unable to unwind while on vacation and therefor tend to go for education and opportunity packed trips in busy metropolises like New York, Chicago, Montreal, Vancouver and now soon Milan. But every now and then I really need to stop over thinking design and absorbing my surroundings like a sponge to just lay back and enjoy nature and family.

I loved having my brother Tom Bielecki (aspiring photographer) with me documenting the trip and shedding light on new ways of looking at things. My sister and I were able to connect on anything from random to fascinating like the Russian couple and their matching lime green thong swimwear. I also appreciated the time with my mom and dad spending some much needed quality time and laughs. I am glad I got to share the plate sized steak, entourage of desserts, countless mango daiquiris and Mayan coffee. Enjoying the simple things is honestly sometimes the best.

The design details are classic Mexican resort style with Mayan references. All the white walls and ceilings with marble floors and counters and backlit onyx wall features and sculptures contrast beautifully with the beautiful blue/green of the ocean and royal blue of the endless resort swimming pools.

Weddings occur daily on the beach or in the grass. This resort creates a stunning background for photographs along with its breathtaking fine sand beach.

I hope they are able to restore this relatively new property to the condition is was and prevent an accident as painful as this from happening again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those to passed away tragically. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May they rest in peace.

Trump International Hotel Las Vegas

Trump International Hotel Las Vegas

I just got back from my second ever trip to Las Vegas and had the pleasure at staying at the five star Trump Hotel. One of the newest Towers on the Iconic las Vegas Strip the glistening gold Trump International Hotel opened March 31, 2008. This is the newest design from the strips Architectural creators Bergman Walls and Associates who are considered the the grandfathers of Vegas and the Mega-resort who can be credited for the design of Caesars Palace, The Mirage, Paris Las Vegas, Treasure Island and the Golden Nugget. This new condo-hotel is located on Fashion show drive right next to the Wynn Las Vegas and hosts 1282 suites and 50 penthouses. It boasts many ego boosting features such as its tallest tower in Vegas status at 64 stories, 24 Carat gold windows, Breccia Onnicata Italian marble bathrooms, a breathtaking lobby, award winning spa and stunning overall interiors!

The Interior Designers on this gem are Design 360 Unlimited out of Santa Monica California who specialize in hotels and resorts such as Fairmont, Hyatt, Loews, Raffles and Marriott, and did the Trump on Columbus Circle in New York city. The Lobby features a stunning colonnade of floor to ceiling crystal chandeliers making the ceiling look like it is being held up in style. The chandeliers echo over the main reception along with beautiful marble, lighting and drapery details. This lobby unlike most in Vegas is classy and not theatrical making it an appropriate design for New York, Montreal or international rather than just the adult Disney Land that most on the strip tend to be. I particularly love that this hotel does not have a casino in or attached to it. After a day of wandering the strip its wonderful to come back to a smoke and gambling free space with a lot more serenity and class.

When we arrived our suite was upgraded so we could be high up on the 50th floor with a stunning view directly on to the strip. I loved the in suite kitchenette with stainless steel appliances, large scale bathroom with jetted tub, Kohler sink and faucet and in mirror 14″ TV so you could keep up to date with the news while you brush your teeth!!!

The 3 Bedroom, 3000sq.ft. penthouse suites were also stunning. Intricate chandeliers, dramatic 64th floor views of the strip and well chosen finishes.

I loved that I was steps away from Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as the beautiful Wynn Hotel and Casino. I finally got to hold my favorite “Boxer Calf” handbag in the world at Saks from Reed Krakoff. It was also a 10 minute drive north to the Outlet mall for great finds at more down to earth prices. I managed to buy 4 pairs of Nine West shoes and a pair of Kate Spade sandals.

The Spa at Trump Hotel

The Spa at Trump

The very last day I enjoyed at “The Spa at Trump” for a 60 minute massage by the very gifted therapist Takeisha. The spa is heavenly and has some wonderful design details. I also loved the custom sugar scrubs and oils for the sauna, many varieties of cold tea and the rain shower. If you are in need of a good bathrobe Trump sells the best bathrobes from the hotel- super warm and lined with luxury. Such a great pampering and relaxing experience before my flight home.
